Every morning we run a Children's Riding Club.
During the morning the children spend an hour riding, a hour performing practical tasks related to looking after a pony; they have a
break for half an hour and spend half an hour learning theory to do with horses and their care.
Here the children and helpers are making up the feeds for horses evening meal. Other tasks might be feeding or mucking out stables
or stalls, cleaning tack or grooming brushes, or tidying the yard.
The riding is for for an hour split either in half lesson and half trek, a hours lesson or an hours trek.
The theory the children learn varies depending on which of the 10 'tests' the children are working towards. All tests are achievable by
even the youngest children. Each test comprises three sections, riding (always the easiest to pass), theory and practical knowledge
of horse care. The theory part includes such things as knowing the names for different parts of the horse, saddle and bridle; knowing
when a horse is looking ill; and how to plait a horses tail.
